Our Presenters

[James Humberstone] James Humberstone, Education and Applications Manager for Sibelius in Australia and noted composer, has a broad range of composing and teaching experience, and is an authority on getting the most from using technology in music education. He is currently composer-in-residence at MLC School in Sydney and lectures at University of Western Sydney. He uses computers extensively in his daily teaching and compositional work.

[Alyson Locke] Alyson Locke, A.Mus.A, ATCL (Dist), has been teaching Guitar for 14 years mainly in private girls' schools in the Brisbane region. A feature of her teaching is an enthusiastic approach to teaching students the type of music that they enjoy listening to. Alyson has directed a number of Popular Music Programs and currently works for Griffith University as a Tutor and Project Manager.
Over the last 10 years she has performed in a number of bands, most notably 'Lucy Beegle' which toured extensively after receiving favourable reviews from Rolling Stone Magazine and local radio stations.
Although the classically-trained Alyson has performed Guitar Concertos and solo classical guitar concerts, her interests have always been solidly planted in establishing Rock Music as a valid form of instrumental tuition, musical learning and expression.

  [Richard Settle] Richard Settle has been involved in music education for many years having worked as an instrumental band teacher in both the state and private school systems. Throughout his career he has continued to work as an adjudicator, clinician & conductor. An accomplished trumpeter, Richard has worked in orchestras and as a commercial session musician and live performer.
During the 90's Richard worked as Education Manager for the Australian Academy of Music and for a time was Deputy Head of Performing Arts at John Paul College in Brisbane.
Richard has recently returned to Queensland after 3 years overseas and now has his own retail music business in Brisbane, "Instrumental Music Australia", which allows him to continue as a guest conductor and clinician encouraging young musicians to reap the vast benefits and enjoyment of music performance.

[Attila Szlay] Attila Szlay (B.A. Contemporary Music, B.Teaching, Secondary)
Working as an Education Specialist for Roland Corporation Australia, Attila has been involved with Roland for many years in numerous parts of the business. As an Educator, Attila has worked as a music teacher in high schools around NSW, teaching the curriculum and Music Industry VET courses. He has worked on developing Music Education and the use of ICT in classrooms. Attila has led education workshops in 'hip hop' and digital recording as part of the 'Values for education' initiatives. A published author he has written for Music in Action on technology applications for the classroom. As an Education Specialist Attila has been actively engaging schools delivering lessons using an array of technology, and has been a strong supporter of composition studies in high schools. Attila is also an accomplished musician, performing in Sydney at corporate functions and recognised popular live venues.

  [Bradley Eustace] Bradley Eustace is a much respected music teacher with a flourishing studio in Brisbane where he teaches the next generation of keyboard players. His qualifications include a Masters in Music Technology from the University of Newcastle, Advanced Diploma in Educational Technology from the Australian Guild of Music Education, L.Mus.A., A.Mus.A., A.Y.M.F. (piano and organ). He also works closely with modern technology, exploring the performance potential of MIDI. He has previously written several books on organ sold mainly in the UK and, more recently, has developed educational software for music teachers and students. His latest publications include a series of piano and keyboard books styled the Bradley Eustace Digital Music Library, which are designed to take advantage of the benefits of modern technology and are suited to students from the new learner to advanced performer. Brad has presented specialised clinics for Casio musical instruments at national dealer conferences and also conducts a range of student/teacher workshops exploring the links between modern technology and education.

  [Tony Burn] Tony Burn from The Resource Corporation started work in the music industry while still at school and has been there ever since(the music industry, that is).
He has been predominantly involved with the sales and marketing of musical instruments since the early 80's as well as performing and demonstrating in the UK, Germany and since 1996, Australia.
His work takes in major cities from Adelaide to Brisbane visiting music stores and institutions.
Tony is currently based in Melbourne and gets his kicks from live performance.

  [Karen Henderson] Karen Henderson, since completing a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and a Graduate Certificate in Music Technology from University of Newcastle, has had vast experience in music education from preschool to tertiary level. In 1990, drawing on her background in music teaching, performance and recording she formed Binary Designs, a Brisbane-based company specialising in linking music and technology. She has evangelised the use of music technology in music education and takes every opportunity to share her ideas with other music educators. In addition to her co-director role with her husband Len in Binary Designs, she has lectured in Music Technology at Griffith University in Brisbane and is a popular presenter at Music Conferences throughout Australia.
  [Len Henderson] Len Henderson (M.Sc.) is a director of Binary Designs, a company focused on helping music educators get the most out of using technology in their work. Even before the company formed in 1990 he was using the latest technological innovations in his music performances and compositions. With the rapid development of computer-based music technology and its expanded use in schools, Len has provided technical advice as well as training and professional development for teachers and students throughout Australia. Len is also a keen guitarist, having performed on several contemporary music recordings in the jazz and rock genres.
